Seven Devils Mountains are on of Idaho's highest mountain ranges extending along the Idaho-Oregon border which includes Heaven's Gate Lookout. The scenic view is spectacular where sightseers can see four states. The Seven Devils Range separates Hells Canyon and the Salmon River Canyon. Elevations range from 1,000 feet to almost 9,400 feet on the He Devil summit.
Seven Devils is accessed from Riggins, Idaho (18 miles) by driving west on Forest Service Road 517. As this road is narrow and steep, low clearance vehicles, RV's and vehicles pulling trailers are advised to use extreme caution when traveling the upper sections of this road. Another access is from Cambridge, Idaho on Forest Service Roads 002, 105 and 112. Southwest of Riggins, the Seven Devils Mountains are accessed via Highway 95 by a gravel road climbing over 5,000 feet.
Activities are numerous and include biking and hiking trails, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and ATV riding. One can view raptors, shorebirds, songbirds, upland birds, waterbirds and water fowl on the Idaho Birding Trail.
Seven Devils Campground is a short walk from Seven Devils Lake near the Hells Canyon Wilderness. This small campground is a tent-only campsite with 10 sites. No reservations are needed and passes are not required. GPS: 45.347228; -116.517825. Elevation is 7,600 feet.
