Hells Canyon
Pittsburg Landing

Pittsburg Landing is in North Central Idaho 19 miles west of White Bird and 45 miles from Riggins. The landing is accessible by Forest Service Road 493. Be sure to use extreme caution, especially when driving a RV or a vehicle pulling a trailer, as this gravel road is steep, narrow and winding.

Forest-Road-Deer-CreekLocated on the Snake River in Hells Canyon, Pittsburg Landing provides the outdoor enthusiast a wide array of activities such as fishing, boating and hiking. A large boating facility is open year-round and is capable of accommodating large trailers with rafts or jet boats. A Snake Rivers boating permit is required for float boats and power boats operating above Cache Creek Ranch. Otherwise there are no fees. Jet boat tours are also available.

The Upper Pittsburg Landing area is a wonderful spot to view the scenic Hells Canyon or to have a picnic. The Upper Landing is open year round and reservations are not needed.

The Pittsburg Campground is adjacent to the Landing. Open year round, this large facility has 28 accessible sites and vault toilets. Many of these sites can accommodate large RV's and trailers. Drinking water is seasonally available. A fee station is available at each campground. GPS: 45.635669; -116.478122. Elevation is 1,200 feet.
