This scenic town, Cascade Locks, has an abundance of activities especially hiking. Discover all of the recreational activities in and around Cascade Locks. In the summer time go fishing, hike to one of the beautiful waterfalls including Multnomah and Bridal Veil Falls, or join in one to the festivals. Wintertime offers wonderful snowmobiling and skiing. For outdoor recreation all year round, get lost in the Mt. Hood National Forest, Columbia River Gorge National Recreation Area or one of the nearby State Parks. Owned by the Port of Cascade Locks and operated by the Portland Spirit, the Sternwheeler offers sightseeing cruises on the Columbia River departing from the Port of Cascade Locks from May to October. Other cruises are available including sightseeing excursions, weekend champagne brunch cruises, dinner cruises, and a variety of special event and holiday cruises.

Lighting of the Bridge

Pacific Crest Trail Days. Thunder Island/Marine Park, Cascade Locks, OR.

Fundraiser event that was created to protect the future of the PCT, generate trail awareness, encourage PCTA membership, and serve as a recreational outing for outdoor enthusiasts. Activities include outdoor gear demonstrations, a great gear raffle, lots of free goodies, music, an outdoor photography slide show, and a screening of a PCT documentary.

Held in June, Sternwheeler Days offer sightseeing cruises, games, bingo, a dunk tank, real live mountain men with demonstrations and much more old fashioned fun.

Outdoor Recreation - Hiking/Biking Trails

Located near milepost 28 on the Historic Columbia River Scenic Highway and accessed off I-84 at Exit 28 Bridal Veil Falls Park features two trails: the upper walking/interpretive trail on the cliffs of the Gorge offering stunning views of the Gorge and the lower hiking trail is about a 1 mile round trip downhill that is steep and with lots of switchbacks delivering you at the base of the falls.

Part of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail, the Bridge of Gods Trailhead provides green and lush scenery. The Pacific Crest Trail and several other Forest Service trails intersect this segment of the trail.

The Tooth Rock Trailhead is a paved trail. Going east on the trail, about 4 miles, takes you on a gradual incline through dense woods ending with scenic views of Bonneville Dam. Continuing on takes you past the Eagle Creek trailhead, Cascade Fish Hatchery and stops at the Bridge of the Gods Trailhead. The westbound portion is one mile crossing Tanner Creek and past overlooks with amazing views of the Columbia River and ends at the Historic Moffett Creek Bridge.

This corridor provides a gentle rising trail with access to two of the most beautiful and secluded waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge: Elowah Falls with a 289 foot drop and McCord Creek Falls (upper).

Multnomah Falls
Located in Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Multnomah Falls is an ancient waterfall cascading 620 feet in two different sections, attracting almost 2 million visitors annually. This is the second highest year round waterfall in the U.S. To get there, travel west on Interstate 84 to exit 35, Ainsworth State Park. Follow the Historic Highway west 4 miles to the site's parking area

Pacific Crest Trail
Cascade Locks is the largest city and lowest elevation along the entire route of the Pacific Crest Trail. The main access is the Bridge of Gods Trailhead with 3 other access points close by.

Vinzenz adjoins 2 other state parks near Mitchell Point. The hiking trail offers amazing views of the Gorge.

Wygant adjoins 2 other state parks near Mitchell Point. The Wyagant Trails lies six miles of Hood River. A trail strikes through the park in a dense, hilly wilderness area that was once the old Oregon Trail and later the Historic Columbia River Highway. This is an ideal spot for backpackers looking for solitude.

Climbing Mt. Hood, lake fishing, OHV, miles of hiking trails, backcountry skiing, backcountry snowshoeing and camping are just some of the recreational activities Mt. Hood National Forest has to offer.

Located in the Columbia River Gorge, Ainsworth State Park is popular for hiking, especially Nesmith Point Trail where you will end up with a magnificent view of St. peter's Dome (a basalt monolith rising 2,000 feet above the river), camping and viewing beautiful waterfalls. There is a playground.

Located one mile west of Multnomah Falls on I-84 at milepost 30, Benson Recreation Area offers fishing for rainbow trout, swimming and non-motorized boating. This area is popular for picnicking and even has a reservable shelter for groups.

Cascade Locks Marine Park is idea for sailing, fishing and camping. You can ride on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler, enjoy concerts, festivals and events. There is a playground for children, picnic tables, restrooms and even free Wi-Fi.
