Located in Hood River County, Cascade Locks is surrounded by the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The name derives from a set of locks built to improve navigation past the Cascade Rapids of the Columbia River.
Cascade Locks offers stunning scenery and plentiful recreational activities. One of the more popular points of interest is the Bridge of Gods, a toll bridge, just upstream from the town, that spans the Columbia River. Beautiful, hidden waterfalls are waiting to be discovered by hiking trails. People hiking the Pacific Crest Trail frequently cross the River at Cascade Locks which is the lowest point along the trail. Sailing and fishing are other popular activities.
