Many State Parks are located on the Hood Canal providing stunning views of both the Canal and the Olympic Mountains. The Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park add even more attractions. Explore this page for more information about the parks and forest.

National Forest

Surrounding most of Olympic National Park, the Olympic National Forest consists of five major landscapes: temperate rain forest, rugged mountain terrain, lowland lakes, rivers and saltwater beaches.

Spanning nearly one million acres, Olympic National Park offers diverse landscape settings ranging from Pacific Ocean beaches to rain forest valleys to glacier-capped peaks. The tallest mountain in the park, Mount Olympus stands at 7,965 feet (2,438 meters). Roads provide access to the outer edges of the park.

State Parks

Located on the southern end of Hood Canal, Belfair is a year-round camping park featuring interpretive programs in the summer. This park features both freshwater and saltwater shorelines. Kite flying and windsurfing are popular activities.

Dosewallips State Park.  306996 Highway 101, Brinnon, WA 98320. Phone: 360-796-4415; Reservations: 1-888-226-7688.

Located on the shore of Hood Canal near Brinnon, Dosewallips offers 5,500 feet of saltwater shoreline on Hood Canal and 5,400 feet of freshwater shoreline on either side of the Dosewallips River. Enjoy the scenic views of the Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains or observe the wildlife on the viewing platform.

Located 12 miles north of Shelton, Potlatch features scenic views of Hood Canal as well as a saltwater shoreline. Four major rivers lie within a 30-mile radius of Potlatch including the Skokomish, Hamma Hamma, Duckabush and Dosewallips. Kite flying, windsurfing, scuba diving and kayaking are popular activities at this park.

Known for the wild, native rhododendrons, Scenic Beach lies on the Hood Canal providing a saltwater beach plus beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains. ADA-compliant paths lead to a country garden, gazebo, rustic bridge and giant trees.

Triton Cove State Park. Brinnon, WA 98320. Phone: 360-796-4415.

 Located on the Olympic Peninsula on the west side of Hood Canal, six miles south of Brinnon, Triton Cove is a small park consisting of 29 acres and is located on the Hood Canal. This park features an ADA-compliant boat launch with access to near-shore fishing.

Located on the south shore of Hood Canal, eight miles west of Belfair, Twanoh has one of the warmest saltwater beaches in Washington State. Clamming and oyster gathering are popular activities.
