This small western town located in the Methow Valley in the Northern Cascades has an abundance of activities. Discover all of the recreational activities in Winthrop. Festivals and Events

49er Days
Living history when packers and pack trains, cowboys, cowgirls, and an entire wagon train all converge for three days of western events and fun.

Methow Valley Rodeo. PO Box 395, Winthrop, WA 98862.

Two annual rodeos, one on Memorial Day Weekend and the the other on Labor Day Weekend, are held at the Rodeo Grounds on Brengman Road located between Winthrop and Twisp.

The Chamber Musical Festival lasts for ten days and features five major concerts. Before every concert evening is a community social hour with local wines, beers and hors d'oeuvers. The festival happens every summer in the Cascade mountains with the main concerts held at Signal Ranch located between Winthrop and Twisp.

Winthrop Marathon
This race is a Boston qualifier with plenty of fun such as a live band and prize money.

Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival
This three day event features on-site camping, portable showers, a beer garden, food and craft vendors and of course the great musical performances at the Blues Ranch on the Methow River.

Outdoor Recreation

Located 22 miles north of Omak, Conconully is regarded as a fishermen's paradise. Two lakes offer boat launches, camping opportunities and a variety of water activities. There are trails for hiking and biking. Recreation in the winter consists of cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and dog sledding.

Popular activities include hiking, backpacking and mountain climbing. Other recreation includes biking, horseback riding, boating, fishing, bird and wildlife watching.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest offers year-round recreational opportunities with hundreds of miles of trails for biking, hiking, backpacking and horseback riding. Take the scenic route and sightsee on the hundreds of miles of forest roads. Many other activities await you including fishing, hunting, climbing, OHV, snowmobiling, downhill and cross country skiing. Be sure to explore the beautiful Alpine Lakes, Glacier Peak, Henry M. Jackson, Pasayten and Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness areas.

Located just 4 miles northeast of Winthrop in the Methow Valley, Pearrygin Lake park provides all the typical water activities including swimming, water skiing, boating and fishing. Boat rental is available at the concession. Hiking enthusiasts can hike the Rex Derr trail, a 3 mile loop. Recreation in the winter consists of cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling.

Rivers

Chewuch River
Originating in the Cascade Mountains, the Chewuch River flows south to join the Methow River in Winthrop.

Methow River
Named after the Methow Native Americans, the Methow River is characterized with beautiful scenery and crystal clear water. Home to some of the largest Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout makes this river ideal for fishing. In the late summer to early fall you can fish for steelhead.

Twisp River
At 26 miles long, the Twisp River originates in the North Cascades and flows into the Methow River in Twisp, Washington. The Twisp River's name comes from an Indian word that means yellowjacket or wasp. The fisherman will be able to catch smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and rainbow trout. Trails along the river provide opportunities for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
