Ontario offers a wide array of activities and outdoor recreation including fishing, boating and rafting in the Snake and Payette Rivers. More water recreation, hiking and scenic driving is offered at nearby Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Find what to do in and around Ontario.

Located northwest of Ontario on the Oregon-Idaho border on the banks of the Snake River's Brownlee Reservoir lies the historic Farewell Bend State Recreation Area. This park is on the historic Oregon Trail. The wagon ruts are still visible. Activities are numerous in this park. Brownlee Reservoir offers fishing, waterskiing and boating. Horseshoe pits, basketball hoops and a sand volleyball court are ready for you to enjoy. Interpretive programs are available in the evenings Memorial Day through Labor Day. Campsites and cabins are available.

Located approximately 45 miles southwest of Ontario in Nyssa, Lake Owyhee State Park is situated on the shore of the scenic Owyhee Reservoir, a 53 mile long lake that fills a deep and narrow canyon where anglers can fish for largemouth bass, white and black crappie, catfish and the occasional rainbow trout. The road to Lake Owyhee Reservoir is a very scenic and picturesque drive but very narrow and steep.

Rivers

Payette River
Located in Idaho, the Payette River empties into the Snake River at the Oregon border. There are a variety of fish to catch including different species of Trout and bass. Whitewater rafting is popular on this river.

Snake River
The Snake River runs through the scenic Hells Canyon from Idaho into Oregon. The Shoshone people called the Snake River the river with many fish. Trout, bass and catfish are the main fish caught but on occasion steelhead and salmon can be caught. Boating and rafting should be with experience people or guides. For those who love to hike there are several trails. There is abundant wildlife to see including bighorn sheep, eagles, osprey and deer.
