The Sawtooth Wilderness is over 217,000 acres and is considered the crown jewel of Idaho. Here you will discover nature's amazing beauty characterized by high granitic peaks and narrow glacial valleys. Explore the deep, secluded valleys covered with massive stands of trees, alpine lakes and wildflowers. The Basin Gulch in the Ketchum District consists of 1,175 acres of alpine vegetation, waterfalls, scree meadows and white bark pine stands.
Sawtooth Scenic Byway
This 115 mile long byway begins in Shoshone featuring the Black magic Canyon
geological attraction. Heading north takes you through farmlands to the resort
towns of Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley. Continuing on through the Boulder
Mountains to Galena Pass provides views of the Sawtooth Mountains and leads you
through the Sawtooth Recreation Area, a great place for wildlife viewing. In
Stanley this byway ends where the Sawtooth meets the Ponderosa Pine and Salmon
River Scenic Byways. Allow three hours for this adventure.
