Located between Olympia and Aberdeen, Elma is the gateway to Grays Harbor. There is access to the Interstate 5 corridor both to the north and south since Elma is situated at the interchange of State Routes 8 and 12.
Elma was first settled by D.F. Byles in 1853. Later Elma was named for the Union soldier named Elmer Brown.
