Located 5 miles from Olympia, Capital State Forest is divided into two sections; the northern section is for motorized activities such as OHV and the southern section is for non-motorized activities including horseback riding and mushroom picking. Hiking and biking trails are open year round and may use both halves of the forest. Camping is allowed.

Millersylvania is a camping park with a freshwater shoreline on Deep Lake providing boating, fishing and swimming opportunities. There is one boat ramp and 100 feet of dock. Kayaks, canoes and paddle boats can be rented. Other recreational activities include three horseshoe pits, hiking and mountain biking trails, an amphitheater and interpretive activities.

Tolmie is day-use park consisting of 1, 800 feet of saltwater shoreline on the Puget Sound. Located on Nisqually Beach, this park provides numerous beach activities such as diving, swimming, boating, fishing, clamming and crabbing as well as an underwater park featuring an artificial reef.
