Chetco Valley Museum resides in the Historic Blake House, the oldest dwelling in the Chetco Valley. Built in 1857, this building was once a stagecoach stop and trading post. Their web site offers a virtual tour.

Parks

Alfred A. Loeb State Park. Located 8 miles northeast of Brookings on North Bank Chetco River Road. Information: 1-800-551-6949. GPS: 42.115607, -124.188447.

Alfred Loeb park is nestled in a grove of myrtle wood trees. The beautiful Chetco River runs along the southeast edge of the park. You can walk along the self guided Riverview Nature Trails, view wildlife including osprey and river otters.

Ancient native azaleas reside in the 33 acre Azalea park. Some of the ancient azaleas were in this park when Lewis and Clark wintered on the Oregon Coast in 1805-1806. Many outdoor gatherings and annual events take place in this park including summer concerts. Amenities include picnic areas, a bandshell/stage, snack shack, gazebo, children's playground, ball fields, horseshoe pits and restrooms.

Harris Beach has the largest island, Bird Island, also known as Goat Island, located off the Oregon Coast. This is a National Wildlife Sanctuary for rare birds like the tufted puffin. Each season offers different attractions. In the winter and spring months, watch the gray whales migration. Watch powerful storms in the winter months. Summer is great for beach activities and kite flying.

Scenic Byways

Pacific Coast Scenic Byway
Beginning in Astoria and traveling south to Brookings, this byway follows the entire scenic coastline along Highway 101. Experience the stunning scenery of the Pacific Ocean while discovering the charming coastal towns, lighthouses, aquariums, museums and other points of interest on your journey. Allow 10 to 12 hours driving time for the 363 mile (584.2km) scenic tour.
