Browning, Montana

Browning is located just east of Glacier National Park, and within the Blackfeet Indian Reservation at the junction of US highway 2 and state highway 89 in Northwest Montana. This is the largest community on the Blackfeet Reservation.

Getting to Browning

Road routes to Browning, MontanaRoad
Main routes in are US 2, MT 89. Closest Interstate is I-90 to the south.
Air
Glacier Park International Airport. Services include Big Sky Airlines, Delta Airlines, Horizon Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Holman Aviation (private charters).
Rail
The daily Amtrak passenger service the Empire Builder runs between Seattle/Portland and Chicago. A depot with a platform and shelter is located in Browning at Heart Butte Road and Depot Road.

Blackfeet Tribal Campgrounds

  • Buffalo Calf Campground: Located neat the Blackfeet Buffalo Reserve, this small campground has 12 RV/tent sites with electrical, RV dump station, tipi rentals, drinking water, gift shop and store.
  • Chewing Blackbones Campground and RV Park: Located on Highway 89 six miles north of the St. Mary's entrance to Glacier National Park on the east shore of Lower St. Mary's Lake. This campground has over 100 tent sites, RV Park, tipi rentals, lake access, showers, gift shop and store. Call 406-338-7406 for more information.
  • Duck Lake Campground: Located on Highway 464 north of Browning, this campground ahs 16 lakeside RV site with electricity, 6 RV sites not on lake with electricity, 7 tent sites, 7 cabins for rent, available fishing outfitter guide, boat chartering and rental.
  • Red Eagle Campground: Located next to the Lower Two Medicine Lake, this campground has campsites from full service with water and sewer to no service.
  • Sleeping Wolf RV Park and Campground: Located between the east and west entrance to Glacier National Park, this campground has 17 RV sites (10 with electricity and water hookups), 10 creekside tent sites, handicap accessible bathroom and shower facilities and RV dump station. There are13 different campgrounds and over 100 sites to choose from in Glacier National Park. Most of the campgrounds are on a first come first served basis with the exceptions being Fish Creek, St. Mary and half of the group sites in Apgar.
