Bandon, Oregon has long been known for its seaside beauty. Surrounded by miles of rolling pastureland, verdure forests and sand dunes, and situated within an easy drive from the California border and the nearby communities of Coos Bay and Port Orford, Bandon’s unspoiled beaches draw thousands of visitors each year from around the world. With more than 15 miles of protected coastline dedicated to wildlife preservation, Bandon is a magnet for travelers who relish the beauty of Oregon’s South Coast.
Recently, however, Bandon has gained even greater notoriety for its nearby golf courses. Home to the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, the little town of approximately 2,900 owns the distinction of being affiliated with three of the world’s top 100 courses. Commanding some of the best scenery in the Northwest, the Bandon Dunes offers first-class accommodations and prime dining opportunities year-round.
Nearby, Bullards State Park is home to the Coquille River Lighthouse and more than 1,200 acres of trails and beaches. Summertime camping is a popular activity at Bullards, which offers lectures, music and entertainment during warm summer evenings.
In Bandon’s Old Town, visitors can take a step back in time in its replica of a 19th century seaside village. Bandon’s homemade cranberry candies and chocolates, jewelry and hand-carved art provide plenty of shopping opportunities throughout the area.
Referred to as the Cranberry Capital of Oregon, Bandon enjoys a fair amount of popularity during its fall Cranberry Festival. Bandon’s link with the tiny berry goes back more than a hundred years, when lumber and agriculture were the mainstays of South Coast’s rural communities. Although cranberries are still grown around Bandon, it is the area’s natural beauty and picture book setting that gives Bandon its fame today.
